Travel Itinerary

Day tour - Your evening game drive itinerary

Your evening begins with a convenient pick-up from your St. Lucia accommodation. You will travel through the Eastern Shores of iSimangaliso Wetland Park on an open game drive vehicle, offering opportunities to spot diverse nocturnal wildlife en route to Cape Vidal.

Upon arrival at Cape Vidal, your experienced and certified ranger will guide you through the respectful and unharmful way to approach and photograph these protected species, ensuring their safety and your unforgettable experience.

Prepare to be mesmerized as you embark on a thrilling search along the 28km stretch of beach towards Leven Point. You will be looking for both the majestic Loggerhead and the incredible Leatherback turtles – the largest of all living sea turtles and the largest reptile after the crocodile, as they painstakingly prepare their nests and then lay their precious eggs. This journey also offers incredible stargazing opportunities under the vast African sky and the chance to spot fascinating ghost crabs scampering along the sand. At Leven Point, you will enjoy a light dinner and refreshments before continuing back towards Cape Vidal.

Did you know? When the females are ready to lay their eggs, they will always return to their birth stretch of beach, no matter where in the ocean they are. This is a truly majestic and spine-chilling experience that connects you deeply with the rhythm of the wild. While every effort is made, turtle sightings are not guaranteed, as these are wild animals in their natural habitat. Your adherence to all ranger instructions and park regulations is essential for their protection. Please note, this tour is not suitable for children under 8 years old.

As you return through the game reserve, particularly around Cape Vidal, keep an eye out for further wildlife sightings, including the chance to spot leopards, rhinos, and smaller species like chameleons that frequent the area at night. This unique safari lasts approximately 6-8 hours, with specific timings adjusted daily for optimal tidal conditions.
